British Airways is venturing further north this winter, adding the Norwegian city of Tromsø to its expanding network of destinations. This marks the airline's inaugural service to Tromsø, making it the northernmost point in its global reach.
Starting December 1st, 2024, and running through March 27th, 2025, the twice-weekly flights from Heathrow will cater to winter enthusiasts seeking the unique charm of the Arctic Circle. Tromsø's allure lies in its festive Christmas markets, exhilarating winter sports such as skiing and mountaineering, the thrill of whale watching, and the enchanting possibility of witnessing the Northern Lights.
Flights will operate on Thursdays and Sundays, utilising the fuel-efficient A320neo aircraft. Conveniently timed departures from Heathrow allow for short stays of three or four nights, perfect for a quick winter getaway. Return fares start from £153, with the added bonus of allowing passengers to check in their skiing or snowboarding equipment within the specified size limits.
British Airways' entry into Tromsø complements the seasonal flights launched by SAS and fellow IAG carrier Iberia, further connecting the city with major European hubs. Additionally, existing seasonal services from Gatwick (Norwegian) and Luton (Wizz Air) provide business class travellers with even more options to reach this captivating winter wonderland.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways' Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed excitement about the new route, emphasising Tromsø's growing popularity as a winter leisure destination and the airline's unique position as the only business class carrier on this route from the UK.
In addition to this exciting development, British Airways has also announced the resumption of its flights to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur in October and November, respectively, along with the return of the Heathrow-Jeddah service in November. These additions reflect the airline's commitment to expanding its global network and catering to diverse travel needs.
